Polar Plunge Saturday to help Special Olympics

Help Special Olympics athletes by participating in the 2018 Peel & Holland Western Kentucky Polar Plunge & Polar 5k on Saturday, February 17. Too scared? Keep reading for another way to help. Either way, you’ll be Freezin’ for a Reason!

Last year, the Polar Plunge raised more than $95,000 to support the efforts of Special Olympics athletes.

The Plunge is a truly unique event and includes a fun, festive atmosphere with food and great prizes. The Plunge works just like a Walk-a-Thon, but with one big twist. Participants still solicit donations to support their effort (a BEAR minimum of $75 to take part or $50 for Junior Plungers), but instead of walking, Polar Bears take a chilly dip into the lake at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park.

You can choose to run into the lake from the Kentucky Dam Village shore, or jump from the docks.

This year's event is again joined by the Polar 5k, which will run a beautiful route through Kentucky Dam Village State Park that same day.

Also returning is the "Triple Crown" - win it by completing the 5k, jumping from the dock AND running in from the shore. There's no extra money raised needed to go for the Triple Crown.

Register at the link provided below.

Prizes will be given for the top individual fundraiser and for the top fundraising teams in corporate/civic, school and law enforcement divisions. There are also prizes for the best individual and group costumes.

Can’t plunge, but still want to support Special Olympics? No problem. Register as Too Chicken to Plunge. You get a special Too Chicken shirt and are still eligible for all other fundraising awards.

Early packet pickup for 5k runners is Friday, Feb. 16 from 4-6 pm at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park (in the Lodge's lobby).

Same-day registration for the 5k begins at 7:30 am Saturday, with the race beginning at 9 am.

Check-in for the plunge is from 9 - 10:45 am on Saturday. Opening ceremonies for the plunge start at 10:45 am, and the plunge begins at 11:30 am.
